Sprinter - Class SGM/Plan Y2/Y3 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Picture by Paul Rowlinson The Sprinter units come in two varieties, 2 car, now known as Citypendel and three car. The Citypendal were originally constructed for the services on the Zoetemeer line from Den Haag and they represented the next phase of development from Plan V and Plan T. designed to accelerate quickly on a line with frequent stops, they were handicapped by having a low top speed. After the intial batch of 2 car units another 60 units was ordered of which 45 were subsequently fitted with a centre unpowered trailer car. A further 15 3 car units were then ordered making a total of 60 3 car sets. A rebuilding programme is currently underway to bring them up to the same standards as the 2 car Citypendal and which includes a new traction control system with Chopper control and an additional door in the trailer car.. This work is being carried out by Bombardier in Denmark. . |
