l SM90 - Railhopper
This small class of EMU has had a troubled history with NS Reizigers. Introduced in 1993, the class had many innovations built into it such as Computer Control, 3 phase traction and these have taken years to resolve and problems are still occuring. Designed as a replacement for Plan V and Plan T, it is unlikley that any more will be ordered as the decision was taken to proceed with DD-IRM instead. The wide body originally contained 2+3 seating but this has been replaced by 2+2.

Mostly now seen on the Zwolle- Emmen line, units are very rarely seen anywhere else. Any photos of these units working other services would be welcome.

May 2007 - all 9 SM-90 railhopper EMUs have been SCRAPPED during the first months of this year (2007). The units were withdrawn from active duty in December 2005 because the costs of keeping this small class operational were becoming too high.

Unit 2109 had the questionable honour of being the last unit to make itself useful during a disaster simulation at Utrecht CS last October. Although the units were officially for sale NS never really tried hard to get rid of them and finally decided to scrap them.

Only 1 front of unit 2106 will be preserved.
